Jamaica Money and Currency

The Jamaica rate of exchange changes daily. My advice to travellers is not to change their currency into Jamaican money in their own country. Upon arrival in Jamaica use a Cambio which specializes in Jamaican money and other currency conversion. You will get more for your money. The most popular Cambio dealing in the Jamaican currency to be found in the resort towns is FX Traders along with other commercial banks. There are cambios to be found at the airports.

To get quick money from your account, Automated teller machines (ATMs) are a good way to obtain incidental cash using a credit or debit card. Most resort towns have branches which has 24 hour ATMs with secure booths. Some banks are linked to international networks such as Cirrus or Plus.

Most credit and debit cards are accepted throughout the island although smaller establishments such as restaurants, groceries and guest houses might not use them. Visa and MasterCard are the most commonly accepted in Jamaica followed by American Express, Diners Club and Discover. You can use your credit card to get cash advances at most commercial banks for a small interest or transaction fee. Learn how to budget for your vacation in Jamaica
