Camping

With few exceptions, Jamaica is not developed for campers.  Negril is the only resort area with a choice of camping facilities, although a few isolated camp sites are also scattered elsewhere.  Many budget properties will let you pitch a tent on their lawns for a small fee.  Some even rent tents.  Most have a shower, toilet and laundry facilities.  Costs begin at about US$5 per night, but US$10 per tent is the average.

It is unsafe to camp in the wild in Jamaica: the threat of robbery or rape is too great.  This includes beaches. If you insist on camping away from organized sites, ensure that you're within sight and sound of other visitors or hotels .  The Jamaica Tourist Board or JATCHA can provide information on safe sites.
